Rutland Outdoor Recreation

The Rutland Region offers outstanding 4 season recreational opportunities for all ages and interests.

Winter Sport – Rutland City is world renowned as a winter sport mecca due to its close proximity to some of the East’s best ski resorts.  The two closest are Pico (9 miles) and Killington (15 miles) but there are also over a dozen great facilities within easy reach.  For alpine or Nordic enthusiasts the Rutland area offers unlimited options and terrain for all ages and abilities.

Golf – During the warmer months the Rutland area offers a great selection of golf options.  Award winning courses like Rutland Country Club, Proctor-Pittsford Country Club (7 miles), Green Mountain National (14 miles), and Neshobe Golf Course(17 miles) are just a few of the many local options to choose from.

Water Sport – With proximity to Lake Bomoseen (15 miles), Lake Dunmore (25 miles), and Lake Champlain (30 miles), as well as many beautiful rivers and streams, the Rutland Region offers terrific water sport opportunities.  Whether you enjoy fly fishing on a quiet stream or boating on a large lake the Rutland region offers many great options.

Hiking and Camping – With easy access to 56,000 acres of national forest, the Long Trail, and several great State parks, Rutland offers many diverse options for the outdoor enthusiast.

Biking – The City owned Pine Hill Park offers bikers access to over 300 acres of trails, ranging from wide-open logging roads to technical single track.  The park evolves every year as new terrain is added and is quickly becoming a national mountain bike destination.  For those preferring a smoother ride the City is also in the process of creating an expansive new bike path which will provide bikers recreational and transportation access throughout several areas of the City.

City Parks and Athletic Facilities – Located adjacent to Pine Hill Park, Giorgetti Arena offers seasonal ice skating during the winter and is home to the Flip Side skate-park during the summer months.  The facility also provides a complex of outdoor athletic fields.  The City’s Recreation and Parks Department (www.Rutlandrec.com) maintains several other athletic facilities, including a City pool, and administers a wide range of recreational athletic programs for children and adults.
